Who we are
Op-Ed is a quarterly fine-art photography publication positioned between a magazine and an art book. It was founded in London by Anne-Sophie Heist as a response to the speed and disposability of contemporary image culture.
The publication is structured as a curated object, each issue featuring one theme, five photographers, one roundtable discussion.
Limited in quantity. Considered in layout. Precise in print production.
It is built on the simple idea that photographic work deserves time, material presence, and fair treatment.
Inspired by the property ladder concept where young aspiring home owners who cannot afford a mansion yet might get their start with a first lovely little studio flat, we love the idea for anyone who likes to live amongst art to have the opportunity to afford their first print collection to build upon. To be invited to think, question, critique, ponder and remember.
Our Intention
Op-Ed exists to:
• Present emerging and established photographers in equal measure
• Offer collectors an accessible first step into collecting photographic work
• Create a physical format that honours artistic labour
• Support artists with clear and fair compensation
Each issue is carefully edited to balance aesthetics, narrative, and rhythm.
The object itself is designed to feel collectible — something to keep, archive, or frame.
In a time of infinite scrolling and digital media fatigue Op-Ed returns to intention. To weight. To slowness.
Where does the name Op-Ed come from
The name is a quiet nod to the traditional opinion pages of newspapers.
But here, it stands for something else entirely.
Op-Ed means Opposite the Edit.
It is a space where the artist sits on the other side of the table — not edited into a narrative, not reshaped to satisfy an algorithm, not streamlined for market demand.
A place where artists can speak in their own voice.
Where they are in conversation — opposite the reader, not beneath the industry.
It offers room to step away from the pressures of visibility, speed, and commercial trend cycles.
And perhaps, just perhaps, to focus part of their practice in opposition to what the market economy expects of them.
